A current report by ORF warns of acute water shortages. After the driest first half of the year for over 100 years, England is experiencing a drought of national proportions. Many regions have only scarce water supplies. The first irrigation bans are already in force. Large agricultural areas in Central and Eastern Europe – for example in Serbia, Bulgaria and Kosovo – are also suffering from drought.
A “rainy” summer with dry consequences
In Austria, many people find the summer rainy. However, the situation is different for agriculture. A hot and dry June was followed by a rainy July. Much of the precipitation came in the form of heavy rain. The water often did not seep deep enough and ran off superficially. Between periods of rain, the fields quickly dried out again.
Green Legacy brings relief – with innovation and impact
Green Legacy has a solution for this: our water-storing granules act like a water depot in the soil. They store rainwater or irrigation water and release it to the plant roots as required. This ensures:
- More stable harvests and greater resilience to uncertain weather conditions
- Efficient water use, even with irregular rainfall
- Long-term soil improvement that not only helps, but has a lasting effect
Together against the drought – internationally networked
Climate change is exacerbating weather extremes such as droughts and heavy rainfall. Our granulates are a practical contribution to making agriculture more resilient to crises – not just in Austria, but all over the world, where extremely changeable weather conditions occur.
