Rain brought relief – but the situation remains tense

18. May 2026 | Agriculture, General

After last week’s rainfall, many farms were able to breathe a sigh of relief, at least in the short term. The rain prevented the worst from happening in many regions and brought much-needed moisture to the crops. Nevertheless, the situation in agriculture remains tense, as the farmer reports.

Austria is currently experiencing one of the driest early years since weather records began. Many soils continue to have a significant precipitation deficit, groundwater levels are low and numerous crops are already suffering from drought stress. Experts are therefore only talking about an initial “breathing space”.

The situation remains particularly critical for crops with high water requirements and for late-grown summer crops. This is exactly where Polysorb+ can help: The water-retaining granulate stores water directly in the root area and can absorb up to 300 times its own weight. This means that moisture remains available where the plant needs it for longer.

The water supply plays a decisive role in the early development phase, especially for crops such as maize, soybeans, pumpkins and sunflowers. Polysorb+ can be applied directly during sowing or planting.
