How can water-retaining solutions be applied directly to the root zone of existing trees?
That was exactly the focus of our live demo at the HBLFA Schönbrunn Horticulture School in Vienna. Together with our partners Vogt, Arborealis, and the HBLFA Schönbrunn Horticulture School, we were able to demonstrate in a practical setting how modern climate adaptation solutions can be applied directly to existing urban trees.
The focus was on an innovative injection technology: Using a special lance, the soil is opened with pinpoint accuracy, and our water-retaining granules are applied directly to the root zone. This allows the soil’s water-retention capacity to be improved even for existing trees—without the need for extensive work or replanting.
Such solutions are becoming increasingly important, particularly in urban areas where there are old trees, parks, and gardens. Cities across Europe face the challenge of adapting their tree populations to longer periods of drought and rising temperatures. Projects such as those in Barcelona are already demonstrating how existing urban trees can become more resilient to drought stress through targeted soil improvement.
The enthusiastic response and the many engaging technical discussions held at the event have once again confirmed that practical solutions for climate adaptation and sustainable water management are in greater demand than ever.
