EU funding for innovative agricultural project

Big news at Green Legacy: the climate tech company has been selected for funding under the EIT Food Impact Funding Framework 2023-2025. The approved SPRINT project is an important step in the company’s technological and economic development.

1.3 million euros for climate-resilient agriculture

With a project volume of 1.3 million euros, SPRINT will start in October 2025 and run for 18 months. The aim is to further develop and launch PolYSORB+, a biodegradable water storage granulate for climate-resilient potato cultivation. Crops such as potatoes and sugar beet are increasingly affected by drought stress in many European regions – a direct consequence of climate change. POLYSORB+ is designed to meet these challenges and secure yields in the long term.

Scientific support from leading university

A central work package of the project is the implementation of a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) by the Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology (LUT) in Finland. This involves systematically analyzing the environmental impact of using PolYSORB+ – both with and without additional irrigation. The study provides reliable data on the ecological effectiveness of the product.

We are proud to have won this project. The EIT selection process was extremely competitive and this award is a clear demonstration of the effectiveness of our products. SPRINT positions Green Legacy at the center of European agricultural innovation and makes a concrete contribution to food security, says Managing Director Enrique Nacif

Strong advocates as another success factor

The letters of intent (LOIs) from numerous project partners who actively supported the project were a key success factor in the application process. These include, among others:

  • Lamb Weston Austria GmbH (international player in potato processing)
  • AGRANA AG
  • Research Burgenland GmbH
  • Lower Austria-Vienna Machinery Ring
  • De Verband (Luxembourg network for agricultural technology and services)
  • Arborealis GmbH

With the official project launch in fall 2025, Green Legacy will take important steps towards the market maturity and scaling of sustainable agricultural technologies together with partners from science, industry and practice.
