31st Austrian Hunters’ Conference 2026
Hunting in the EU – Hunting in the area of conflict between EU policy and international agreements.
On March 5 and 6, 2026, the Puttererseehalle in Aigen im Ennstal will once again become the meeting place for the Austrian hunting and wildlife community. The Raumberg-Gumpenstein Federal Institute of Higher Education and Research is hosting the 31st Austrian Hunters’ Conference, bringing together experts from hunting practice, science, administration and nature conservation.
The conference will focus on current challenges and opportunities for hunting in the European context. Among other things, the effects of the EU Restoration Regulation, biodiversity programs, questions of sustainable hunting and the role of hunting in combating animal diseases will be discussed. Practical presentations and in-depth discussions will bridge the gap between the legal framework and the reality of hunting.
Top-class program with practical relevance
The highlights include presentations and contributions by:
- Klaus Hackländer (BOKU Vienna) – Hunting systems in the EU: Diversity as a challenge or an opportunity?
- Thomas Ellmauer (Federal Environment Agency) – Hunting’s contribution to EU nature conservation policy
- Ulrich Herzog (BMASGPK) – The role of hunting in animal disease control
- Flurin Filli (Swiss National Park) – Findings from 30 years of chamois research
- The program is complemented by panel discussions – including on the topic of “Wild animals versus administration” -, the popular Speaker’s Corner and an evening program with a game buffet and music.
